Apple sent invitations to media outlets for an event to be held at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco on Wednesday, September 9th at 10am PDT.
The invitation teases the inevitable spate of rumors with the line “Hey Siri, give us a hint.”
Rumor sites had already pegged the venue for the much anticipated event as the Bill Graham Auditorium (7,000 person capacity) instead of the usual venue for Apple announcements, the much smaller Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (750 person capacity).
Rosenblatt Securities‘s Brian Blair today offered up some thoughts on what the expanded venue means for the next Apple product debut, beyond the expected update of the iPhone line.
We believe that it is likely to be the revamped Apple TV box, which has been expected for a number of years. One idea, which could be far-fetched, is that Apple wants additional space to create a home living room to show how HomeKit will work. Another possible reason for a larger venue is to provide a more traditional concert-like stage/crowd in an Apple Music push.
Bloomberg reports that Apple will not deliver the rumored live TV-over-internet streaming service for the Apple TV until 2016. Content negotiations are reportedly stalling the launch of the service.
